As soon as Avila was admitted she received her first of MANY blood transfusions. She came in with very low hemoglobin and platelet levels. By the end of the first week she had surgery for port placement and received her first dose of chemotherapy.
Over the course of two years, she will receive chemotherapy various ways: by IV accessed through her port, through her spinal lumbar puncture, and through oral medications.
